There's a magical moment shortly after the rain has cleared, when the flowers in the garden are bathed in a fesh coating of fine little glassy crystals...

I came home this afternoon to find a ladybug sitting on the edge of my desk. Naturally, it was a great opportunity to take some photos!

RIP - The Fallen Silvereye

Sometimes, nature can be quite savage and cruel, reminding us all just how fragile life really is. Just over an hour ago, I watched in horror as a silvereye fell out of the tree and onto the cold hard concrete less than a metre away from where I stood. Out of nowhere, there was a rustling of leaves overhead, and then all of a sudden, there was a chaotic ball green-grey wings and feathers flailing around on the ground, frantically tossing and turning (in what I presume was shock) before rolling onto its back, legs twitching, and taking its last gasps of air.

Yesterday, I caught sight of this bumblebee passed out on a flower in our garden, presenting a perfect opportunity to take some close up shots of it :)

I'm not really a fan of eggplant, but this "graffiti eggplant" certainly looks interesting - like some kind of exotic ceramics or gumboots!

Over the weekend, we cleared out our stash of old/dead batteries, which we'd been storing up to dump in one go, since IIRC there are various restrictions on where/how you can dispose of them.

Sensitive Plant Macros - Pre-Bloom Flower Head

This morning, I noticed that our sensitive plant (i.e. Mimosa pudica) had developed a flower bud. So, without further ado, I set about trying to get some shots of it!

A Face on a Spoon...

This afternoon, I took some time off/away from a computer to recharge/relax after a long and busy week, spending some time taking photos of things around the house. When reviewing these shots, I noticed that on one of these, there appeared to be a bit of a face on one of the spoons lying in the sink...

Macro Fun

It's been unseasonably nice and warm over the past few days (22.4 deg C yesterday, in the middle of winter). With a few flu-like illness scares and nose bleeds too, it was about time that I took a few days off from all the projects that have been keeping me busy for the past while. That's not to say that the past month of dedicated project time has been hard-slog; rather, compared to the madness of a few weeks back, the slower pace of research vs courses/classes was quite a godsend that didn't last long enough!). Anyways, some pics from around the house (as usual).
