Tui at Wellington Botanic Gardens

Didn't have as much luck getting a good photo of the Tui's, despite seeing way more of them (and actually running into one of them first).

This one is one of the better ones. 


Besides being hard to get good focus on them without a longer lens, their dark feathers made life difficult (i.e. can't really see their eyes, or only get a dead / "vacant" voids look instead of spirited + glossy beady eyes)

But that combination of colourful feathers around the back + rump, white "netting" around the neck, and of course, the iconic "white puff" bowtie around its neck make it quite a whimsical bird of sorts.


Pity that Christchurch is pretty much the only place in NZ that doesn't really have any...
