Personal Playlists

The topic of personal playlists came up recently, so I started writing up some notes, and ended up with a long enough list in several parts, that I thought I'd collate + archive this for the next time anyone asks...

The truth is, the actual full list of individual stuff is long enough that the total runtime (of the abridged version I have on my phone for random shuffle playing overnight/other times) exceeds 24 hours...   (That version obvious excludes any of the full hour-long albums / soundtracks / and longer classic pieces though...) 

It's grown that long as I do actively hand-curate it, adding things to the list when I find stuff I like...

Reflections on Farewelling My Old Car

Watching my old car of 30 years being towed away was one of roughest days I've suffered through... 

 

Certainly up there with the deaths of my grandparents and pets  (except, well maybe the deathly chill that I felt after getting the phone call that Grandma had died), and also those work-related times when certain bastards have had an "existential risk" type go at me...

 

Here's the car halfway down the driveway, driving past the row of pretty spring flowers... 

Farewell Dear Friend 💔😭

Today, the inevitable has finally happened. Even 10 years after it probably should have happened, and having captured all the photos + videos I could think of to memorialize its memory, it's still been a very hard few days... 😭

 

 

This is one of my favourite photos of my beloved 1988 Toyota Corolla ("White Car"), that we've had for 30 years this year (i.e. 1996 - 2026).  This photo was taken on the morning that I headed back to campus to submit my thesis back in 2017.

 

Common Phrases Revised for the Post Modern Era - Plagues and Military Grade

Increasingly, it seems that we need to re-evaluate many of those "common phrases / expressions" used for various things, as they are increasingly not fit for purpose!

Two salient examples.

* 1)  "Avoid like the plague"

* 2) "Military grade" 

 

Alternative Names for BigTech LLM's

Following from a post I wrote the other day, I think we should herein refer to the BigTech slop machines as:

"Fraude", "NoPlotlet", "Dementus", and "Slop"

and their makers:
"Anti-anthropogenic", "Microslop", "Gobble", and "Y / Void-Y"

If you guessed that I wasn't a fan of AI shit in general, congratuations for realising the obvious! 😜

Quake Anniversary - 16 Years Later - Advice on Earthquakes

Today marks 16 years since the first of the destructive earthquakes that have forever changed my hometown:  Christchurch, New Zealand.

This makes it a timely day to repost some thoughts I posted a few weeks ago in response to someone feeling disappointed they didn't feel some of the earthquake activity that had been happening recently around the country.
